Elephant poo on your shoe

Hi from Maun, Botswana.

It's beautiful here and I don't want to go home. Really. This time I mean it.

We've just returned from a couple days of camping in the Okavango Delta. Real camping - the no shower, dig a hole in the ground for your toilet kind. It was great, and we were good and dirty before we got back to the civilization of Maun. We went out to an island in the middle of the delta to set up camp, but couldn't take a car - we had to hire a mokoro, a dug-out canoe, to pole us out to the island. One boat for us, one for our gear. It was amazing, so placid...I think we both could do with a year of living in a place like this.

On the island itself we went on a couple of walking Safaris trying to track down shy elephants and territorial hippos. We saw plenty of both, though one hippo, or actually two, got a little too close for comfort so we backed away. Yes, those vegitarian, serene-looking creatures are Africa's #1 killer (well, as far as animals go), so we didnt want to chance things just to get a photo.

We'll stay in Maun for a bit before moving on to Palapye. We have only days left here before we fly back to Hungary.

I'm sad, but ready to sleep in a bed and all that.

But don't think we're not asking anyone and everyone what living here as a teacher would be like

xox,

T
